To BAME or Not to BAME

The Great BAME debate presented by Aon in collaboration with iCAN, and Young Diverse World Changers (YDWC)

On Wednesday 25th November, from 18:00-19:30, our debaters will tackle a topic which has recently become controversial, the use of the acronym BAME for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic. Now widely accepted in the media and the corporate world, the term BAME was born out of a desire to create solidarity between minorities against racism. However, it is suggested that the term is now more readily used to lump everyone who is not white into a single category.

Our debaters:

  • Joel Semakula – Barrister, Landmark Chambers

  • Felix Wong – iCAN Steering Committee and Executive Assistant to the COO, Allianz Insurance

  • Femi Williams – Innovation Lab Associate, Lloyd’s

  • Beki Muinde – Deputy General Counsel, Helios Towers plc

  • Prabhmeet Singh – Global Finance Director for Financial Solutions, Willis Towers Watson

  • Karen Cargill – Coverage Counsel, Aon
