As a volunteer-run network, we work hard by coming together with our partners to help promote advocacy, collaboration and awareness of diversity and inclusion across the industry in each event we put on.

iCAN, QBE & Liberty: Inspire Speed Mentoring Event
The Insurance Cultural Awareness Network (iCAN) in partnership with QBE and Liberty Speciality are pleased to invite you on the 27th November to our speed-mentoring event for iCAN members and allies from across the insurance industry.
Speed mentoring – what’s it all about?
If you’ve never tried Speed Mentoring before, it is a great way to give you face to face time with mentors who come from all walks of life – be they senior leaders, consultants or entrepreneurs. Like speed-dating, over the course of an evening mentors and mentees will have a series of short, focused sessions which aim to tackle challenges or specific issues in the working environment.
Past feedback has been extremely positive, with both mentors and mentees feeling an impact well beyond the event. Our mentors volunteer their time, and they have an amazing range of experience, background and roles, so get ready for interesting, challenging, and fun sessions!

Diversity Partner Networks London Festive Drinks
We are a group of cross-market networks within the insurance market that focus on specific diversity and inclusion needs - working together to drive change.

Before joining Aviva, Danny was the Chief People Officer at Metro Bank. During her tenure, the bank was consistently recognised as providing market-leading service through its unique approach to people and culture.
She previously held various HR and business leadership roles at Halifax, HBOS, Lloyds Banking Group, and Barclays.

About Alex
Alex became AEGIS London CEO in July 2022, after seven years in the CUO role. During his years on the AEGIS London Executive team, Alex has been integral in achieving and maintaining the Syndicate’s top quartile performance. His current strategic focus involves prioritising performance, the culture of the business, digitalisation and transformational use of data.
Alex joined AEGIS London in 2000, underwriting property business before taking responsibility for the Property and Terrorism accounts. He began his insurance career more than 25 years ago, when after four years in broking, he became an underwriter.
Alex is currently a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association Board. He has been a member and past chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association Worldwide Property Panel and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurance.

iCAN & AXA XL – Day of the Dead: Celebrating Latin American Culture
Celebrating Latino Culture with our first LATIN-AMERICAN EVENT, in partnership with AXA UK & AXA XL!
As we approach the Day of the Dead, we invite you to join us on the evening of 23rd October 2024 from 5:30pm in honouring and celebrating this rich tradition where we will come together to create a beautiful ofrenda (altar) that holds deep cultural significance for many countries in Latin-America.

About Luis

Luis has over three decades of experience in the insurance industry and has held various underwriting, risk management, and leadership positions.
Luis joined Liberty in 2023 from AXA XL, where he was Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), UK and Lloyd's, and the Active Underwriter of AXA XL's syndicate at Lloyd's. Having joined Catlin in 2008, he progressed through various senior roles while the firm transitioned through two acquisitions.
Luis recently obtained an MBA from Cambridge Judge Business School.

iCAN ESEA & Allianz Changing Seasons: ESEA identities through generations
Join us for an enriching and insightful evening at the "Changing Seasons: ESEA identities through generations and migration," hosted by iCAN in partnership with Allianz. This event is dedicated to celebrating the rich heritage of the East and South-East Asian (ESEA) communities, while offering new perspectives on ‘East meets West’.
What does it mean to be from an ESEA background in 2024? Does the experience differ from our parent’s or grandparent’s generation? How is migration to and from the ESEA region changing the dynamics of the UK? How does the insurance market feel for people of ESEA heritage? Has Western culture been influenced by ESEAn culture, and what is the impact?

Designed to create a safe space for DEI network leaders across the insurance sector, iCAN Connect was developed in July 2020 to connect network leads and heads of DEI, HR and Talent to discuss key industry issues and best practices.

About Stuart
Stuart Scott is the Chief Executive Officer for Starr’s European Operations. He has been with Starr Companies since May 2009 and has played various roles such as the Chief Risk Officer and the Managing Director for Continental Europe.
Stuart began his career in 1999 at the Bank of England, where he worked in the Monetary and Financial Statistics division and focused on the collection and analysis of UK balance of payments data. In 2004 he switched to the corporation of Lloyd’s as an account executive in the Performance Management Directorate and was in charge of evaluating individual Syndicate performance against approved plans.
Stuart joined Starr Companies in 2009 to assist the Underwriting division in implementing business plans, tracking class performance and improving the operations of the underwriting areas. In 2011 he assumed the responsibility for ERM and Exposure Management and was an important member of the team that achieved Solvency II approval in March 2015.
Lately, Stuart has been in charge of expanding Starr’s Continental European operation across all lines of business. At the end of Q1 2024, Stuart became the CEO for Starr’s London and European operation. Stuart graduated with an Honors degree in Finance and Management Science from Keele University in 2000.

About Shane
Shane commenced his career with Brit Insurance in 2005 and is currently the Group Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary, holding the former position since 2015 and the latter since 2010. He is also executive sponsor for Inclusion and Diversity.
His actuarial and risk management experience has been gained through a career spanning 30 years and working across a broad spectrum of the insurance industry.
Prior to his career at Brit, Shane worked at a healthcare company, AXA PPP Healthcare, from 2000-2005 and at a life and pensions company, National Provident Institution, from 1994-2000.
Shane is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Statistics and a M.Litt degree in Management, Economics and Politics, both from the University of St. Andrews.
Outside of work, Shane enjoys sport, music, travelling and spending time with family in England and Northern Ireland.

About Jason
Jason joined QBE as Chief Executive Officer, International in October 2020. Before joining QBE, Jason held the position of Chief Executive Global Property and Casualty, in addition to other senior roles at AXA XL. Jason was also the Chief Executive International Property and Casualty at XL in the UK with responsibility for their Property & Liability business outside of North America.
Prior to this, he worked at AIG/Chartis Insurance in several senior roles including Executive Director, Commercial Lines. He is an underwriter by background and started his career working in offshore energy. He has worked in the insurance market for over 25 years.
