Senior Accountant

MINT’s Accounting and Finance department supports the eight divisions and offices across the UK, Europe, Canada and Asia Pacific.

The role of Finance at MINT is varied, we are responsible for recording financial transactions, providing financial information to the Markel Corporation, ensuring compliance of legal and regulatory reporting obligations, and providing accurate financial performance information to key decision makers. The successful candidate will be an important part of the wider team within Finance and will be encouraged to quickly establish strong working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Preparation of Solvency II Pillar III returns.

  • Preparation of various annual statutory accounts.

  • Assist in the quarterly USGAAP reporting cycle, including the production of balance sheet analysis and reconciliations.

  • Provide expertise and knowledge of accounting standard developments, keep up to date with UKGAAP and IFRS developments and assess impact to Markel entities.

  • Liaise and communicate effectively with other areas of the business including: Actuarial, Legal and Compliance, Internal Audit, US Corporate Finance and other members of London Finance.

  • Work effectively and efficiently to adhere to internal and external reporting deadlines to support increasingly demanding Group and local requirements.

  • Become familiar with our current and legacy systems.

What we’re looking for:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent) with experience in insurance sector essential.

  • Thorough knowledge of MS office suite.

  • Good communication skills.

  • A strong collaborative approach combined with the ability to work independently towards tight, internal timeframes
